Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir—In a significant encounter on Monday, three terrorists were killed after they opened fire on an Army vehicle in the Batal area of Akhnoor. Security forces utilized drone surveillance to capture images of the assailants, leading to the recovery of one body, while efforts continue to retrieve the bodies of the other two terrorists.
Drone Surveillance Aids Operations
Images taken by drones have played a crucial role in confirming the identities of the terrorists involved in the attack. The gunfight erupted around 7 am when the terrorists fired multiple rounds at the Army vehicle, prompting security forces to cordon off the area and initiate a manhunt.

Context of Rising Tensions
This incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened security measures in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly as the region prepares for the Diwali festival season. The recent surge in terrorist attacks has raised concerns among local authorities.
Just four days prior, an ambush near Gulmarg in Baramulla resulted in the tragic deaths of two soldiers and two porters. Additionally, a teenager from Uttar Pradesh was injured in a separate attack in Tral, marking the third assault on migrant workers in the region within a week. Notably, on October 20, a coordinated attack led to the deaths of seven individuals, including a doctor and six migrant workers, at a construction site in Sonamarg.
Ongoing Security Measures
In light of these repeated attacks, a high-level meeting was convened at the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor’s residence on October 24 to discuss strategies for improving security and protecting civilians.
