Contract Extension Secured
Bayern Munich has officially extended the contract of CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen for an additional two years, now running through June 2027. This decision was unanimously approved by the club’s supervisory board, reflecting Bayern’s commitment to stability at the highest levels of leadership.
Navigating Challenging Times
Dreesen, 57, has played a crucial role in steering the club through turbulent waters since he took over as CEO in 2023. His appointment followed the dismissal of former CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić, which coincided with Bayern securing its 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. Dreesen, who joined Bayern in 2013 from the banking sector, has a background that includes serving as vice-chairman of the supervisory board before ascending to the CEO position.

Praise from Leadership
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer expressed strong confidence in Dreesen’s leadership, stating, “Dreesen took over the chairmanship of the board during a difficult phase and quickly led FC Bayern Munich AG back into calmer waters. We want to continue on this path together. We’re certain he is the right person to tackle the challenges ahead.”
Facing Recent Challenges
During Dreesen’s tenure, Bayern experienced challenges, notably failing to win the Bundesliga last season, which ended a decade of dominance as Bayer Leverkusen claimed the title. However, the club is showing promise this season, currently sitting five points clear at the top of the league after 10 rounds, under the guidance of new coach Vincent Kompany.
Further Changes at the Club
The extension of Dreesen’s contract comes amid other significant changes at Bayern, including the appointment of Christopher Freund as sporting director and Max Eberl as a board member for sport. Michael Diederich continues as the club’s CFO, helping to shape the strategic direction of the organization.
Looking Ahead
Bayern Munich is set to announce another year of record revenues at its annual general meeting on December 8, 2024. The club’s leadership is optimistic about Dreesen’s ability to address upcoming challenges and maintain its competitive edge both in Germany and across European football.
