Modi’s Announcement at Business Conference
In a significant move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Germany will increase the number of skilled worker visas available for Indian professionals from 20,000 to 90,000. This announcement was made during the Asia Pacific conference of German business leaders, emphasizing the potential for enhanced growth in Germany.
Strengthening India-Germany Relations
While addressing the conference, PM Modi highlighted the roadmap for a developed India over the next 25 years. He expressed his satisfaction with Germany’s recent “Focus on India” document, which outlines a strategic partnership aimed at fostering collaboration between the two nations. He stated, “Germany’s decision to expand the visa quota reflects its growing interest in accessing India’s skilled workforce.”
Economic Synergy
Modi emphasized the synergy between India’s dynamism and Germany’s precision, suggesting that the integration of Germany’s engineering with India’s innovation could pave the way for a brighter future on a global scale. “When Germany’s technology meets India’s talent, it promises a better future for all, including the Indo-Pacific region,” he noted.
Cultural Engagement
The Prime Minister encouraged German businesses to immerse themselves in Indian culture during their visits. He remarked, “Engaging with India is not just about business. If you overlook our culture, cuisine, and shopping, you’ll miss out on essential experiences.” He assured attendees that they would return home enriched by their experiences in India.
India’s Growth Pillars
PM Modi outlined the four pillars supporting India’s growth: democracy, demography, demand, and data. He stated that talent, technology, innovation, and infrastructure are crucial tools for development, supported by “Aspirational India and Artificial Intelligence.” This dual focus, he said, positions India well for future global needs.
Germany’s Skilled Labour Strategy
Germany has recently unveiled a skilled labour strategy specifically targeting India to alleviate its workforce shortage. This initiative aims to enhance the mobility of skilled workers from India to Germany. Notably, Germany hosts the largest non-German student population in its universities, with around 50,000 Indian students currently enrolled.
Reviewing Strategic Partnership
During the 7th Inter-Governmental Consultations (IGC) held later that day, PM Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reviewed the progress made in the India-Germany Strategic Partnership. Discussions covered various sectors, including defence, technology, and sustainable development. New initiatives focusing on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and clean energy were also introduced to further elevate bilateral relations.
